SLIDING SCALE PRICING

What is it and how does it work?

We offer all workshops on a sliding scale.

The sliding scale framework comes from a desire to create multiple access points for participants based on an individuals honest assessment of financial circumstances.

Facilitators deserve to be reciprocated with a fair wage for their time, energy and expertise and participants deserve opportunities for access that recognizes the realities of economic privilege.

Each workshop has 5 different access points to them- Cost, Middle Cost, Bottom Cost, Pay it Forward and The Benefactor. The Cost tier is the true cost (or close to) of the workshop which takes into consideration facilitator and host compensation, material costs and infrastructure maintenance that is inherent in hosting workshops on a small farm. If you choose a ticket price below the cost tier, you are receiving a discount. The Middle tier is for those who are able to meet their basic needs but have little-to-no expendable income. Paying for this class may qualify as a sacrifice but it would not create hardship. The Bottom tier is for those who struggle to meet basic needs and paying for this class would still be a significant hardship. The Pay it Forward and Benefactor Tier is for those with financial security who would like to help subsidize lower priced tiers as well as provide scholarships for future free and low-cost classes so that workshops can be done in a reciprocal and equitable way for both facilitators and low-income individuals. The Pay it Forward tier supports 2 participants, 1 at Cost and 1 at Middle. The Benefactor tier supports 2 participants at the true Cost of the workshop. For both the Pay it Forward and Benefactor tier, one will specify if they are going to participate in the workshop themselves and donate the other dues to low income individuals or have both dues be donated to low income individuals.

(The framework for this particular sliding scale is informed and adapted from the work of Alexis J. Cunningfolk of Worts and Cunning Apothecary. You can find out more about them and their framework for sliding scales HERE.)
